The new Messenger is getting everyone excited

We're as excited about the arrival of the new Messenger as a ski bunny witnessing the first dump of snow of a new season. And why wouldn't we be excited? The new Messenger will offer richer chat experiences through a new interface design, upgrades to every major feature and the introduction of some cool new features, making Messenger the best way to connect with your friends online in real-time.

Here's a quick run through of what to expect.

Improved IM experience

The new version of Messenger brings you richer photo and video sharing, high-definition video chat, video messages, games, and one-click access to files on your computer.

Let's say you want to get updates on last night's snow fall. Just search Bing and then share links to videos or images you've found of knee-deep powder all from inside Messenger.

The best way to have a meaningful online conversation with photos, videos, or website content is to look at the same stuff with your mates at the same time. So we've made it easier than ever to do these things together. So now multiple simultaneous conversations can be managed by putting each one in its own tab.

Staying in touch with close friends

Australians send approximately 125 million Messenger messages a day. Add in the connections we make on social networks like Facebook and we become very busy people. So we focused on connecting Messenger to the social networks you already use and prioritising the most important updates so you can quickly see what your favourite people are doing, wherever they're doing it.

The latest status updates from your Facebook friends who don't use Messenger? Check. Tweets from your favourite celebrity you're following? Check. The Microsoft Office docs you're collaborating on with work colleagues in SkyDrive? Check. Put simply, it's all your stuff, pulled from all over the Net, available in the one place.

Lastly, Messenger now brings high-resolution views of the photos, videos, and links that your friends are sharing, right to your desktop. Browse through their Facebook albums, add a comment and then update you own status.

We've formed tight partnerships with all the major social networks so when you connect with Messenger, you're entire online world will be in sync. Simple.

The new social view for Messenger is a far richer interface.

Bringing Messenger with you to Hotmail, the Web, and your phone

Whether you're on your way home from school, enjoying your lunch break at work or just relaxing at home, we are bringing Messenger to the places you want to communicate from.

One of our goals is to keep you in touch while away from your main computer, so Messenger can be integrated into your mobile experiences. From SMS and simple browsing to new Messenger apps for your mobile, Messenger will have you covered.

Chat and e-mail go hand in hand, so there's also an update to Hotmail that puts Messenger front and centre there too.

That's all we can reveal for now, but to seriously whet your appetite and keep your Messenger hunger at bay, here's a video to show you a little bit more of what's in store.

evrytime microsoft release a new version of messenger, its worse than the last version....... I see no reason why they would change now
Will the new upgrade be available to mac users with voice and video
Lookin Good, this will ideal forr me, when I'm on internet
Absolutely Fabulous! Can't wait for it - Good on yer, Microsoft! The very best in the entire universe!
when does the new msn come out??
I don't really know what to expect. I'm quite happy with how the current WLM runs, they didn't need to do a massive overhaul on it. I like the way the current messenger's set out, it's own standalone client. I don't exactly like the way every service is going to be connected through the one service. Doesn't that present security issues?
I have stopped using Messenger. I kept getting invites from people I don't know and there was no way to block them. I might try messenger again, but then again I am now using Skype quite happily. Microsoft, you had better be a bit quicker at fixing spam contacts next time (if you have fixed it in the upcoming release at all that is) and you might retain some of the small market share you have left.
I would really love a realease date. Microsoft has made the new Windows Live Messenger Iphone App available to the usual select countries (Us, Uk, Canada, France) when will it be here?????
Looking forward to seeing this one in action, sad but true that almost all versions of Messenger that I have used have as some point lagged the systems it was built for, I do not put this as a Messenger issue more of a Windows Issue. But now that I am using Win7 64bit, I am really keen to see what Messenger comes up with and I hope it compliments the new OS seamlessly.
will this be available for macs? cos i thing the version of WLM sucks for mac, which is totally unfair! can you make a new version for mac?
